To have a better smile, you have various dental care options. But, with all the available information, you may not know what is useful and what is not. This article will help you on your way to achieving the smile you have always wanted.

Brush teeth twice each day. The ADA recommends this, and it’s good hygiene. Make sure that you’re brushing your teeth daily, so you can be sure that you’re doing the right thing to take good care of your mouth. It’s a good idea to floss then, too.

For best results, your toothbrush should be kept clean. You should rinse it after brushing and dry it naturally. Get toothbrush holders for your whole family so toothbrushes do not rest on your bathroom sink. It is best to keep your toothbrush in the open air, to prevent bacterial growth in between uses. Get a new toothbrush every few months.

Your teeth can show your age. See a restorative dentist if you have broken, discolored, or crooked teeth. A bad smile may make you look older. To help you look young, visit your dentist to have your dental problems corrected.

If you have sensitive teeth, use a specially formulated toothpaste. If cold or hot foods cause you pain and/or discomfort, you probably suffer from sensitive teeth. If the problem persists, you need to consult a dentist to make sure that your sensitive teeth are not caused by some underlying illness.

Do not chew on ice. As you chew chunks of ice, your teeth may crack. This allows plaque and bacteria to settle in these crevices, which will lead to more cavities. Use care when you are chewing anything that is hard, such as hard candy or popcorn kernels. If you think a tooth has cracked, see your dentist immediately.

A healthy tongue is just as important as healthy teeth and gums. To keep your tongue healthy and clean, always use a scraper after brushing. These inexpensive dental tools will allow you to remove excess bacteria from your tongue. Don’t have a tongue scraper? Use your toothbrush on your tongue to get rid of bacteria.

If you have realized that tooth brushing may not get all plaque because you can’t see it, you can use a disclosing mouthwash that makes it show up so that you can brush your teeth better. Just follow the directions to use the product. Trouble spots will show up as blue or pink spots so you know where to brush. You might not want to use the products if you are in a hurry and don’t have the time to effectively brush away all remaining traces. Do not use them if you must go to work quickly.

As stated earlier, you have to invest some time into dental care. You have all kinds of options for whitening your teeth. Review all of the tips contained in this article, and apply what you’ve learned. You’re teeth will appreciate the extra effort.
